“Ghost: The Curved Glass Armchair
“”Ghost”” evokes more than just a shadow or trace—it embodies the essence of spirit and soul, captured in a material as ethereal as glass. This ambitious vision was brought to life by Cini Boeri and her collaborator Tomu Katayanagi, who dared to mold glass into the form of an armchair—a container not for liquids, but for the human form.
This groundbreaking design, born from the technical and aesthetic mastery of Vittorio Livi, made its debut at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1987, where it immediately captivated audiences. The armchair was awarded as the most innovative product by the visitors in a contest hosted by the magazine ‘Interni.’
The Ghost armchair, made from a single monolithic piece of 12mm-thick curved glass, is a perfect synthesis of technological experimentation and formal design. Boeri and Katayanagi’s creation challenges the perception of function, making the user the true focal point of any room. The design’s brilliance was further recognized with the Compasso d’Oro Career Award in 2022, cementing its place as an iconic piece in the world of contemporary design.”
